Sharing Handlers in Slack
Make your Handlers available to your team by sharing them in Slack channels and workspaces.
Once you’ve built a Handler, you’ll want your team to start using it. Sharing in Slack is the fastest way to get your Handler in front of the people who need it.
Inviting a Handler to Channels
To make a Handler available in a Slack channel:
- Go to the Slack channel where you want the Handler to be active
- Invite the Handler’s Slack user to the channel (just like inviting a colleague)
- The Handler will now respond to mentions and can participate in conversations in that channel
Who Can Use a Shared Handler
Anyone in a channel where the Handler is present can interact with it. However, the permissions system controls what the Handler can actually do for different users:
- You (the manager) — Full access based on your “Me” permission settings
- Everyone else — Access based on the “Others” permission settings
This means you can safely share a Handler widely while keeping sensitive tools locked down.
Best Practices for Sharing
- Start small — Share with a pilot group first to gather feedback before rolling out broadly
- Set clear expectations — Let your team know what the Handler can and can’t do
- Monitor the dashboard — Keep an eye on conversations and tasks to make sure things are running smoothly
- Tune permissions — Adjust the “Others” permissions based on how your team uses the Handler
- Use descriptive names — A Handler called “Support Agent” is much more approachable than “Handler-7”
